Syrah is the highly esteemed and widely loved variety of the Cote Rotie and Hermitage regions of the Northern Rhone Valley (France). There, Syrahs achieve the highest levels of bottled grace, structure, dynamic aromatics and mysterious, heady flavors. Syrah is a very complex grape variety, and, depending upon where it was grown and how it was vinified, can often offer forth great nuances of white pepper, forest floor after a rain, roasted meat, bacon fat, roses and spice. It is also a principal blending grape within Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas. In recent decades, Syrah has emerged as a leading variety in California’s Central Coast (America), where it is often considered among the most alluring varieties of the Golden State.
